Animation Revelation 2008

To all NTU students! It’s coming. That’s right folks! Our club’s long awaited Free Anime screening event! This October, our first “Animation Revelation” screening event will be held! We’re bringing you not One. Not Two. But THREE featured Anime movies! One movie each for three consecutive evenings from 7pm onwards, on the 13/10/2008 (Tuesday) to 15/10/2008 (Wednesday).

So why Animation Revelation? Well, we hope that in attending our event, you will be able to gain new insights into the world of Animation. As you all know, we here in AnimeWorks LOVE our anime. We believe animation opens up whole new worlds of possiblities in storytelling and art, and we’d like to share that sentiment with you all by showcasing some of the finest animation works ever produced.

What will we be showing? When and Where? Read on below to find out!

We will be featuring the following three movies at these times and venues:

After the screeening, we will be providing some light refreshements for you all to enjoy. We’ll also be holding a mini-exhibition on Anime history and subculture right outside the LT. So do stick around once the show’s over and mingle with your fellow Anime fans over some light drinks and snacks and bone up on you knowledge of Anime!

Once again, everything is FREE! There is no admission charge for this event. We do however wish for you to register with us before the event so that we can keep a count of how many people will be going. If you send in your registration, we’ll also keep you updated with our club’s events! So hurry! We’ll also be having a publicity booth this two weeks on campus where you can personally come down register with us as well. Look out for us in the North Spine near Canteen A on the 30/9 (Tuesday) and 7/10 (Tuesday), or in the South spine near Canteen B on the 2/10 (Thursday) and 8/10 (Wednesday). Do pay us a visit!

So leave behind your stresses and worries for a few nights, and allow youself to be swept away as we journey into the amazing world of Animation! We hope to see you there!

Comics Ensemble Site Deployed!

Gentlemen, Behold!

The NTUVAS secures yet another foothold in the online world, as our comrades, Comics Ensemble, set up base here on wordpress as well, and we move one step closer to total mastery of the internet. That’s right folks, you heard it here first, the VAS is out to conquer the Interwebs, one blog at a time, and there’s nothing you can do to stop us. Despair! The Conspiracy is upon you! There is no chance to survive make your time! BWAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA!

Actually we all have projects and assignemtns to do, so better shelve those plans for now eh?  Better reign myself in before I make more outdated internet meme injokes.

Kaleidoscope 2008

In its 2nd year running, Kaleidoscope is an event jointly organised by Collateral Damage Studios and NUS Comics and Animation Society that showcases digital artwork from local and regional talent, and all aspiring artists are welcome to send in their submissions.

This year the event is expanding beyond just Anime-based artwork, and encompassing digital art of all forms.  While the last Kaleidoscope was held at Suntec, this year it will be held at Funan the IT Mall from 1-2Nov 2008, 11am-9pm on both days.

The NTU Visual Arts Society remains a firm supporter of this event. If you are interested in sending in your artwork for  display, the NTUVAS is helping to collect submissions from the NTU student population. It doesn’t matter if the artwork involved is 3D modeling, 2D art, or not even digital at all, you can send in your submissions to by the deadline of 15/10/2008, and we’ll help you showcase it during the two day event.

The Organisers have outlined a few guidelines that submissions must follow, so please do take a look at them before sending in your work:

“Submission Requirements For Artwork:

we require the artwork to be a 300 dpi JPG file.

– At least 300 dpi 2480×3508 pixels A4 size image

Submission Requirements For Other Media

– A render of the image with resolution of 300 dpi 2480×3508 pixels.

Guidelines to follow:

– Please do remember to credit yourself.
– If the artwork is a fanart, please do also credit the original creators.

– Also, if you are part of a Studio/ Art group, pleae do specify if you want to be listed under them or as an individual.
– Studios and Artgroups are advised to send a logo so we can make labels for you”

Anime Festival Asia 2008

Not quite AnimeWorks news, just a head’s up that might interest some of you anime lovers out there. This November will see the launch of the first Anime Festival Asia, the first anime convention of such a scale here in Singapore!

From 22 to 23 November at Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event will be host to many Anime related activities and events, and will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Japanese Pop culture. There’ll be Anime Screenings, Manga art showcases, toy displays from companies like Bandai, in other words, an all out festival for anime enthusiasts.

There will also be panels by people in the anime industry, like Koji Morimoto, one of the founders of Studio 4°C. Mr Morimoto is known for being the director in works like Noiseman Sound Insect, Comedy, as well as shorts for Animatrix and Robot Carnival. He has also worked as producer on shows like Galaxy Angel, Mazninkaiser, New Getter Robo and Onegai Sensei, as well as being an animator on Macross Do You Remember Love?, Ashita no Joe, and Akira. So for those who want to find out more about the industry, do try to catch him.

Sure, for some of us students, it is right smack in the middle of the exam period, but we encourage you to try to lend your support for this event as it will prove a great boon to the local anime community and pave the way to more such events in the future.
