ヘタリア Axis Powers

What is Hetalia?

Think history coming alive in a fun and engaging way.

It is originally a webcomic created by Himaruya Hidekazu which portrays the political and historic events between countries, particularly of WWII. Now it has expanded into an ongoing anime series created by Studio Deen, which is streamed online. The countries are represented by anthropomorphic characters ie country-personified in layman terms. The title is short for Hetare Italia (ヘタレ イタリア), or “useless Italy”.

main characters: Germany, Italy and Japan, and the Axis Powers comprising of America, England, Russia, China and France.

Historical, political and military interaction between countries are represented as social and romantic relationships, usually with various innuendo. Characters are usually referred to by the country names. Currently over 40 countries (and still counting) have been personified so far.
